It’s always lovely to find a new fantasy author. And when I first read Fiona McIntosh’s Quickening series, I thought I finally found someone to fill my Robin Hobb-dry season because the plot was so engaging that I forgot the annoying aspects of real life. Like eating, sleeping…
So, I quickly grabbed out her new series when it came out. The tale behind the Trinity series is pretty straightforward … kid discovers he has superpowers, kid goes on a quest … but does the series go beyond well-established fantasy plot lines?
Well, read on to find out….

I’m not a fan of fantasy stuffs because I find them predictable. Magic, a quest for something to return/defeat something, bad guys, good guys, estranged good guys blablabla…
But I quite enjoy the book. There were a lot of cliche in it, which is usual in fantasy genre I reckon. But what I like is when I’m comfortable with one storyline (that usually spells danger because then I would be bored with it and not continue), it takes a new turn and that makes it feel fresh.
The book is not bad, but it’s not excessively good too. It’s an easy reading, something to fill summer holidays with.
